Due to the increasing systemic research approaches in the life sciences and the availability of huge high-throughput data sets bioinformatics has become a key discipline of immense importance. Germany has recognized this trend early and has systematically founded bioinformatics centers for research and education in 2000. With over 150 professorships and independent academic research groups with relation to computational molecular life science Germany has a high level of expertise in bioinformatics research and education. The webpage of FaBI gives an overview of research institutions, professorships and study programs with bioinformatics content.
