Activities and responsibilities:
The University Duisburg-Essen (Campus Essen) offers a position (starting
2021-01-01 for three years) at the Faculty of Biology, Research Group
and Computational Biophysics</a> as:

PhD student
(65% part-time, salary equivalent TV-L 13)

The successful applicant will work in a collaborative project aiming at the
discovery of mechanisms that lead to high prevalence of B cell lymphoma in HIV
infected. The project is funded by the German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation.

The focus will be on computational analyses of data from high-throughput
experiments, specifically:
- B cell receptor repertoire analyses
- Whole genome analyses
- Affinity assays
For these analyses the PhD student will develop/apply computational methods.

The PhD student will participate in the BIOME graduate school.

Qualification profile:
At least 8 semesters of successful studies with a Master in Bioinformatics,
Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Biology or similar.
- solid background in bioinformatics (sequence analysis, machine learning, etc.)
and statistics (preferentially probabilistic modeling and Bayes inference)
- Familiarity with processing and analysis of HTseq data
- Very good programming skills, including R and python
- Background knowledge in molecular and immuno-biology
- Good communication skills (incl. ability of writing and speaking scientific
english) and team working abilities
